Open source stuff ain’t captured Pakistan market in a way it had captured european market. And the reason behind this is lack of awareness among the masses. Another reason could be very cheap pirated softwares. Most of the people rely on those pirated edition and never think of an Open Source Application. Pakistan Software Export Board Ministry of Information Technology has initiated Open Source Resource Center (OSRC) project. The project began in 2003 with an objective to promote and support open source initiatives in the country. It will not only provide the proper guidelines infact it ‘ll also support the people who are interested in developing open source applications. I think this initiative really gonna boost potential of open source applications in Pakistan. They should also conduct a contest annually to encourage young software developers.
